Today up to 70% pf the childhood cancer can be cured. But what is missing is the proactiveness and awareness among the people to eradicate cancer by the root. There is a need for people to come forward in the fight against childhood cancer.
St Baldrick’s is one organization that is involved in fighting childhood cancer. Nothing can be more devastating for a family than watching a child struggle to survive against cancer. The foundation has taken up the cause of fighting childhood cancer and easing the pain of such families. It does so by organizing various fund raising events for bringing about awareness and eliminating cancer. The mission of the foundation is to raise funds to cure cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships. The St. Baldrick’s event involves thousands of volunteers shaving their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family.
Some of the individual donors of the foundation include Bob and Kerry Orlich, Francis & Rosa Feeney, Brynjolfsson Family, Mr. Timothy Gardner, The Shah Family Christian Fund, Mr.
David Disiere among scores of others esteemed donors. The foundation utilizes the funds raised to provide fellowship opportunities and research fundings. Funds raised through St. Baldrick's events are helping some of the world's finest researchers to find cures for childhood cancer. The St. Baldrick's Foundation became an independent charity in late 2004 and began making grants in 2005. Funding applications are reviewed by a Scientific Advisory Committee, and funds are made available to pediatric cancer researchers in the form of grants and fellowships.
